Why Hoardfast internal site hoarding is perfect for use in hospitals

Renovation works are commonplace in many public sector work environments and healthcare is no different. Hospitals regularly undergo works to improve standards, maximise space or to create new wards. Here’s why internal site hoarding is the perfect option for hospitals undergoing upgrades.

Fire rated panel options are available

The safety and security of staff and patients is paramount within a hospital environment. Fire rated panel options are available for our internal site hoarding which enables works to comply with health and safety regulations. At Christies Hospital Manchester, we provided a Hoardfast Firescreen floor to ceiling solution to cope with hot works that were being carried out. It was necessary to create a dust tight, fire rated barrier between an operational coffee shop and exterior building works. The systems unique 60-minute fire protection and dust-tight seal ensured that the corridor and coffee shop remained open, protected and clean throughout the works.

Hygiene standards are easily maintained

The unique modular design and simple click-together installation ensures that the Hoardfast product range comes with infection control approval. This is due to the dust tight tongue and groove connection between all panels. The infection control approval means that our internal site hoarding can be used to segregate high-risk patients when it comes to infection. Westgate’s Hoardfast PVC is also wipeable on both sides making it a hygienic product to use when creating temporary wards in hospitals.

At University College London Hospital, work was being carried out in the toilet area within a live ward. Of course, hygiene standards needed to be maintained within the live ward and so fire rated, mineral wool filled Firescreen panels were installed.

Clean and quick installation

The installation process does not create any mess and no paint, cutting or sawdust is involved on-site, unlike other materials such as timber and plasterboard. Nor does the installation process take up too much time. Because installation is quick, simple and clean, it means patient care can continue as normal with no disruption. Additionally, the modular panels can be easily disassembled and relocated if phased work is being carried out. At Wythenshawe Hospital, they needed to create a protective barrier between window installations and public area. It was vital that no dust from installation works made its way to hygiene areas of the hospital. A Hoardfast PVC floor to ceiling option was installed to achieve this.
