Westgate can create window film for your commercial window display

The first window film, produced using a polyester laminate, was designed to help control excessive heating of building interiors by the sun, and first saw the light of day back in the mid-1960s. Early experimentation with window film found that, when added to the interior of a window, it blocked much of the solar energy responsible for causing the excess interior heat, and reflected it back outward.

As research continued, tints were developed which began to gain in popularity with architects looking to better blend the glazed areas of a building with the overall architectural design. It wasn’t long before new colours such as amber, gold, grey, and bronze were available, as well as the original clear film. By the mid-1970’s it was realised that polyester film could not only reflect solar heat outwards, but help retain heat generated internally, by absorbing long wave infrared heat, and reflecting it back inward, keeping a room warmer for longer.

In the 1990s a new generation of window films was developed using metal with the dye. Although solar heat reduction was impressive, over 50%, the metal in the tint was found to interfere with different digital devices. Nowadays, films with ceramic replacing the metal have been developed. Ceramic films provide the same impressive results regarding heat reflection and retention without interfering with electronic devices and have a lifetime operational expectancy.

Westgate has been supplying and installing window films since 1977. We work with some of the biggest companies in the UK, and supply and install our range of film products in the commercial and retail sectors, schools, hospitals, and government buildings, as well as working closely with large Facilities Management companies.

There are several great benefits to be gained from the use of window films in all areas of retail and commerce. With the large glass frontages of modern retail establishments, the commercial window display is often in direct sunlight, and prone to colour fading if displayed for any length of time. Reflective window films will reduce this fading, reduce in-store temperatures, and help cut costs by reducing air conditioning operations. At the same time, window shoppers are allowed the opportunity to view window displays, without the glare which would otherwise reflect off the windows.

During the colder months, when much of the store heating dissipates through those big store windows, the thermal insulation properties of film help maintain a more even temperature and reduce heating costs.

Unfortunately, we are also living in a time that means many inner city stores have a need for blast proof shop front windows specifically designed to help protect property and people in the event of terrorist activity. Bomb blast window film is also an ideal addition where businesses continuously run the risk of property damage through vandalism and break-ins as it toughens class once installed.

As if that’s not enough, greater use of your office or shop front glass windows can be made to enhance the appeal of your premises, promote your company image and brand, and advertise products or services.

No matter whether you operate from, a 25-suite commercial office building in the newest business park, or have a small office in a side street of your home town. Our range of window films can help improve the security of your premises, enrich your commercial window display, help promote your brand, and enhance your company image.
