As reported in Facility Executive, the International Window Film Association (IWFA) has stated that “the immediate and long lasting benefits of professionally installed window film include reduced cooling and energy costs, improved comfort for occupants, a lower carbon footprint, and eliminating the need for expensive window upgrades.”
The International Window Film Association (IWFA) is an American educational resource for consumers and industry professionals seeking to learn more about the many benefits of window films. Made up of dealers, distributors, and manufacturers they provide research, influence policy and promoting awareness of window film.
Window film is increasing in popularity in the US, with various case studies emerging highlighting the benefits of solar window film. For example, a single Midwest-based location of a national pharmacy store chain reduced the need for electrical lighting by up to 52% by filtering UV rays and redirecting natural light with a window film application.
Here in the UK, window film is used by schools, offices and even historical buildings to reduce energy costs. Window films have become one of the easiest and most cost-effective solutions for commercial buildings to implement.
Heat reflective films are designed to create manageable and temperature controlled room environments which also help to reduce the load on cooling systems, in turn reducing energy costs. This solution is used a lot in schools, offices or factories to ensure that in the summertime, heat and glare do not make life uncomfortable. But window film is not only used to reduce energy costs, it can be also be used to combat various other solar problems.
Recently, we worked with the National Trust to install a security, anti-glare and anti-fade window film, as well as window sun blinds, into the park farm house and associated buildings of the Shugborough estate which was undergoing renovations. The window film was to protect the valuable interior from fading and UV damage, filtering out 99% of UV radiation. Offering a triple layer of protection, this combination film also provided anti-glare and reinforcement of glass, making it superior to other types of UV window film.
