Creating a temperature controlled environment in a simple and cost-effective way

Whilst our products are used to provide an array of different solutions, one of the most common uses of Westgate’s Flexiwall is to help create temperature controlled environments in commercial or industrial areas.

Why would a temperature controlled environment need to be created?

The need for temperature controlled environments is common in the commercial sector, especially within the food and pharmaceutical industries, where products are sensitive to changes in temperature.

Creating a temperature controlled area within an existing space is often preferable for a number of reasons.

First of all, maximising existing spaces is more cost-effective than say, renting another storage facility or warehouse, which would be an additional expense. Extra employees may need to be employed too.

Secondly, it may not be operationally smart to separate functions into two different buildings. More often than not delivering dual functions under the same roof is the desirable option as it’s much more efficient.

And thirdly, creating a temperature controlled enclosure means that only that area needs to be either heated or cooled, rather than the entire warehouse or building; saving on energy usage to reduce both the environmental impact and the overall cost.

Many businesses find they need to make changes to their existing set up due to an increase in demand, either temporarily due to seasonal changes, or permanently which sees them adjusting how they operate. Introducing new products or services to the business is also a common reason for need to maximise existing space.

Case studies for temperature controlled spaces

Dempson Ltd, because of positive developments in their business, needed to create a new printing area within their existing warehouse space where employees would be permanently working. To comply with relevant health and safety regulations related to temperature in the workplace, the new area needed to be adequately heated.

Conscious of the cost and environmental impacts of heating the full warehouse on a permanent basis, they wanted to heat just the new designated area. Flexiwall was used to create an enclosure which could be heated in a much more cost and energy efficient way.

Similarly, EGGER UK Ltd, leading manufacturers of wood based panels in Europe, required a new area within their warehouse where dust and temperature levels could be controlled. The new area would be used for packaging up samples in a clean environment, whilst other processes continued in the rest of the warehouse.

Westgate provided a three-sided Flexiwall enclosure 113m x 8m high with a 99% + dust seal, a Fastflex fast action door and two steel pedestrian doors for access to the area.

Benefits of Flexiwall for temperature control

Flexiwall is the ideal industrial partitioning for controlled temperature storage rooms for a number of reasons.

Not only do the panels used to make up the Flexiwall contain thermal properties which enable separate enclosures to operate at different temperatures, they are also non conductive, which leads to minimum condensation build up.

Other key benefits of Flexiwall include:

  • Quick installation – this saves on business downtime
  • Installs to any height and width – meaning even the most awkward spaces can be accommodated
  • Clean installation – the system creates less dust and mess than other types of partitions such as timber stud or masonry
  • Minimal floor space is required – allowing full maximisation of existing space
  • Relocatable – whilst the Flexiwall is a permanent fixture, it is easily relocatable should the needs to the business change
  • Access options – Westgate can incorporate access options to provide an integrated solution
  • Branding – Flexiwall can be designed with corporate logos and colours
