ISG Construction is a dynamic global construction services company. They specialise in fit out, technology, construction and development and are dedicated to delivering places that help people and businesses thrive.
One of their most recent projects is at Walsingham House, Seething Lane, London. The site is going under a full redevelopment behind a retained period building façade which is increasing floor space in the building from 40,000 sq ft to 63,000 sq ft.
The project had got to a point where the number of on-site workers was increasing and it was necessary to create areas for a canteen, drying room, washrooms and toilet cubicles. These areas needed to be as close to the site as possible so downtime was minimised during lunch breaks and scheduled breaks.
Westgate were contacted due to the quick lead time required as set-up was needed on site within three weeks.
Westgate provided Hoardfast Firescreen, a steel faced, fire-safe system designed for screening areas from building and renovation works. The modular panels of the system allowed installation to be carried out in just a few days. The fact that the panels were all pre-cut to the exact ceiling height before being sent to the site minimised installation time further.
Firescreen’s system comprises of panels tested for 60 mins fire integrity and insulation. The panels are fire- rated to BS 476-22 and LPS 1208 and surface spread of flame to BS 476-6 & 7 Class 0.
The mineral wool filled Firescreen panels fit together easily with a tongue and groove fixture, providing the quick installation times. Panels are available either free-standing, supported by a weighted foot or held in line by floor and ceiling channels. For this particular project a floor to ceiling system was required.
The areas were chosen within the site where there would be the least impact to other trades that could be segregated off to form the temporary facilities. The facilities included:
• a male and female drying room area
• toilet blocks (with the individual toilet cubicles made out of Hoardfast uPVC panels)
• a canteen area on the 1st floor
Westgate provided and installed 115 linear metres of panels with an additional six toilet cubicles.
